From casual to elegant, intimate to grand—Parties of Note offer you the chance to gather in some of Greater Cincinnati's greatest homes and establishments to enjoy a variety of themed parties throughout the year. More than just a great party… For each party order, you will receive one voucher valid for one complimentary ticket when a second full price ticket of equal or greater value is purchased to any CSO 2008 concert at Riverbend or 2008-2009 concert Music Hall. Amahl, the Night Visitors, and You Start the holiday season with a compact concert version of Giancarlo Menotti’s Christmas classic Amahl and the Night Visitors. Adapted by Seventh Presbyterian music director Allan Martin, it features the voices of fellow CCM grads. Historical note: The premiere performance of Amahl on NBC TV in December 1951, was conducted by Thomas Schippers, who served as CSO music director from 1970-1977. Enjoy hors d’ouervres and wine before the 30-minute performance and dessert afterwards with some carols. You’ll get into the Christmas spirit immediately, even if you’ve been feeling bah, humbug of late! Partake of Christmas cheer while listening to familiar tunes of the season on the piano in the spacious living room. A light Christmas buffet will be served in the warmth of Santa’s dining room. Who knows, maybe that jolly old elf will join in the merriment! Jazz pianist Pat Kelly will be playing a Charlie Brown Christmas, as well as other jazz and traditional Christmas carols on the Weber duo-art grand. Join Tom McKee, veteran newsman, and his wife, Claudia, at their lovingly restored Kenwood home for a Sunday afternoon of reminiscences about his almost 30 years in local broadcasting, including the time he became news - while being held hostage at the station. Tom & Claudia’s collection of eclectic art and antique furnishings mixed with traditional pieces makes this a home of exquisite taste and serene comfort. You’ll be greeted at the door by their special four-legged co-hosts Golden Retrievers, Maggie & George. Menu A bountiful buffet featuring chilled salmon with dill sauce, curried chicken and other house specialties Party Number 35 Magic and Merriment Christy and Terry welcome you to their gracious home for a frolicking evening of prestidigitation and other table-top magic to delight and mystify. Fat Tuesday is just a week away, and we’re gonna get hands-on in the kitchen with My Personal Gourmet Chef Harvey Golden, to prepare a few delicacies to celebrate Mardi Gras. Wear your comfy cooking shoes, bring your toque and your apron, and get ready for some great Cajun fare you’ll prepare and enjoy before Lent. Watch out for the baby in the King Cake! Let the good times roll….. Menu A Taste of N’Awlins Cajun Cuisine, such as Fire-Roasted Vegetarian Gumbo, Creole Jambalaya, Crawfish Etouffé, Cajun Dirty Rice. Hosts Kathy DeLong, Nancy & Lionel King Party Number 38 World Class Maestro and World Class Wines Come and enjoy the Maestro’s musings and repartee at Tom Neyer’s beautifully renovated and decorated vintage home perched on the hillside where the view of the city, hills and river is vintage quality as well. Tom’s home will be the stage for the gourmet, but relaxed, dinner-by-the-bite he will prepare and serve as you taste vintage champagnes and wines. These will include at least seven appropriately aged wines from France, Italy, Portugal and more, each selection paired with a food course designed to bring out the best in both. Explanations of the heritage and style of these wines will also be given. Truly a vintage experience! Menu Champagne and Vintage Wines matched with Dinner-by-the-Bite Party Number 39 A Roaring Good Time at the Fire Museum The Cincinnati Fire Museum, located in a 1907 National Register firehouse, is both exciting and informative. Through interactive computers, you can learn how the experts handle various dangerous situations and see over 200 years of firefighting history on display, including the oldest surviving fire engine in Cincinnati. Although you may experience sliding down a fire pole first hand, no fire pole races are planned. Instead, the real competition will be a chili taste-off, featuring unique versions from selected neighborhood chili parlors. Menu Chili (of course!), salad and beverages Party Number 40 We Are What We Wear: A Century in Fashion Bette Sherman, noted fashion collector and stylist, will take you back in time, giving you an opportunity to experience fashions from the past. Join us for a vintage fashion show and tour of the collections. Menu An afternoon tea Party Number 41 A Victorian High Tea Don your best Spring bonnet and gloves and join your friends for high tea at the Gazebo Tea Garden. If you don’t have a bonnet, Beverly has a collection from which you may choose. Enjoy tea and the many tempting items on the menu. Chat and relax with friends as you admire the charming surroundings. Those Victorian ladies really knew how to live! Join the Froehlichs for cocktails and hors d’oeuvrés while enjoying their beautiful spring garden. Dinner and conversation will follow a delightful concert by the CSO’s Sylvia Mitchell, Paul Patterson, Christopher Philpotts, and maybe a surprise member. They will be playing some old and some new – jazz-light-world. With this talent, and in such a garden paradise, anything can happen. So don’t miss this celebration of Spring! Menu Argentine dinner Party Number 46 Downtown with the Downtons Join Meredith and Chuck Downton in their beautifully restored Federal style residence built circa 1834 (although historian Walter Langsam believes it was built in the late 1820s). Formerly the residence of Samuel Burdsal, who was a good friend of President William Henry Harrison, it has been carefully added to under the watchful eye of architect, Ken Jones. As you tour this best of Broadway home, you will learn the construction techniques of that era, as well as some of the Queen City’s history.
